Cupcake Wars Family Night!

Team up or go solo for a cupcake war against your family. Give everyone a certain amount of time to make and decorate a cupcake of their choice. Then, have one person judge each cupcake and determine a winner!

Every day, I have the choice… do I spend my ‘free time’ cleaning or playing? Well, it's a good news/bad news situation because tonight's family night will definitely get you playing-- but might not leave your kitchen the cleanest room in the house! Go at these cupcake wars with the spirit of a warriors and the creativity of an ar-TEE-st. And don't worry about the mess, just make the memories!

Step 1: Bake the cupcakes.

Okay, yes- this DOES go without saying... but have some fun with it. Consider this round one. Use a big flower pan to make big cupcakes, or for $3 you can buy a mini cupcake pan. The possibilities are endless... When baking your cupcakes consider having a few extras on hand to throw into the batter:

Flavoring- If you don't get a box mix that comes pre-flavored consider something fun like lemon extract or strawberry extract to flavor you batter!

Fruits- have some fruit around to toss in the batter!

Chocolate Candy- Anyone ever bit into a cupcake to find a Reese's PB Cup down in the middle? Well, me neither... but it sounds awesome! Someone PLEASE make this for me...

Step 2: Set your table

Set the table with everything that you have at home to decorate.  Candy, icing, left over chocolate and fruit, colored icing (we just dye our own). Set it alllllll out.  I let each of the kids have a spoon and they use the back of the spoon to put the icing on (it makes it easier than a knife). But there is something people don't tell you- Mama's you've gotta tin foil that table. Forget the plates- nothings going to stay on there anyway. Just tin foil the whole side! It makes it 100% easier to clean up afterwards! Here's what I mean:

Step 3: Everyone picks a cupcake and the game is on!

They just start decorating.  The goal is to come up with the most creative cupcake! (The second goal is to pay no attention to how many of the toppings are being eaten right out of the bowl!)

Have fun! Take pictures! Eat cupcakes!
