Today's lesson isn't just about the passing of Moses and his instructions for the priests who followed... but it's about church leadership.
God has appointed leaders over a church to guide and direct it to seek His will, to determine how that church is to bring God glory in its context. It should go without saying, but I will say it anyway, that church leaders are to be not only believers, but mature believers. Not perfect—none of us are—but they are held to a higher standard (see 1 Tim 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9).
As you share with your kids about Moses’ farewell, don’t miss this opportunity to encourage them about the gift that God has given to us in our godly leaders. Encourage your kids to pray for your leaders and to love them well. And you likely won’t share this, but don’t miss this important truth: that includes you. Whether you are a teacher of a Sunday School class or a parent/sibling teaching this lesson from home, you are a gift to your kids, to your church, and by extension, to the nations. Lead well!
Preschool Tip: Try to protect time this week to pray for the leaders of your church and to have your preschoolers color pictures for them. Including those pictures with a brief note from you would surely be a blessing to the godly leaders God has given you.
Kids Tip: You have a great opportunity this week to encourage and challenge your kids, especially the older ones, to consider how they are leaders. Every kid can, and should, be a leader in his or he own way—whether that is as part of your ministry, encouraging the younger kids and preschoolers, on a sports team, or at school. Help your kids not only to be thankful for their leaders but to grow in their leadership as well.

Christ Connection: Moses was a good leader for God’s people. No one else was like Moses—until Jesus came. The Bible says Jesus is greater than Moses. He alone is our perfect leader. Jesus died and came back to life so that Moses and every believer can enter the promised land of God’s kingdom.
If you have a bible at your house, read the book of Deuteronomy 31-34 If you don't have one, that's okay! CLICK HERE.
Questions from Kids
Seen from afar Game:
You'll want to print a copy of the "Eye Chart" by CLICKING HERE or you can make one yourself using white paper and markers. Hang the eye chart on a wall and tape a line about 10 feet away from the chart. Instruct kids to take turns standing on the tape line, covering one eye, and seeing how many of the letters they can read. Can they do as well with their other eye?
Remind kids In today's story, Moses had to view something from far away because God didn't allow him to see it up close.
Today's Craft Activity:
Make a scroll with your family this morning! Grab whatever materials you have around the house that you think might work. In class we'll be using 2 popsicle sticks, felt or paper, glue, and a marker to write on the verse.
First, wrap each edge of the paper or felt around the 2 popsicle sticks.
Next, use glue (or tape or whatever you've got) each end to secure it.
Write Deuteronomy 31:9 onto the scroll.
