April 30th- Joseph Sent to Egypt

As you can probably guess today begins the first week of our new unit- Out of Egypt. Today we'll start things off of with Joseph, and the ever popular story- the coat of many colors.

Here are some jams to get us pumpin'

And now: Onto the story! CLICK HERE FOR TODAY'S STORY SUMMARY

After listening to the story, consider illustrating the story into a timeline of sorts, focusing on the 6 major events:

1. Joseph's father, Jacob, loved Joseph most and gave him a robe.

2. Joseph had a dream

3. Joseph's brothers hated Joseph and planned to kill him

4.Reuben convinced the brother NOT to kill Joseph

5. Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery

6. The brothers told Jacob that Joseph was killed by wild animals.

Connection to the promise: Joseph's brothers turned against him and tried to kill him, but God protected Joseph and used him as part of His plan to rescue his family. In a similar way, people turned against God's Son, Jesus. Jesus' death was God's plan to rescue sinners.
If you have a bible at your house, open to Genesis 37 and have a parent read it out loud to you! If you don't have one, that's okay! CLICK HERE.

Questions from Kids!

Robe Relay:

Form 2 teams. Provide each team with a bathrobe. Instruct teams to line up at one end of the biggest room in your house. Place the robes on the opposite end of the room. When you say go, the first player in each team should run to the robe, put it on, and say "Ah! What a wonderful robe!". They should then take the robe off and run back to join their team. When they return, the next player can complete the same task. If you have a family of four- consider going through this 2 or 3 times. You could also set a timer for X number of minutes and see how many times you can go through in that allotted time.

Explain that Jacob gave Joseph a beautiful robe. Jacob favored Joseph above his other sons. What does it mean to favor someone? How do you think Joseph's brothers felt about Joseph?

Jacob's Robe Craft (#competition):

So, for today's craft, it may seem a little easier for you older kids- but rest assured, this is a very. serious. contest. Here's the deal! Each Pre-school-5th grade student should decorate one robe (Joseph's robe of many colors!) Download the template HERE if you need it.

If you don't have a printer, draw your own robe, and decorate it! Here are a few examples:
